Randy Newman does indeed have a way of telling it like it is.
Just so happens, here, too - 40 years later, and far from the South - we are too afraid to look in the mirror, and too ignorant to realize... and apparently too stupid to do the right thing. But unlike the typical redneck, we are simply self-involved and way too small minded, but worst of all (and the biggest difference) is that deep down we shamefully know it.

The stormy final mvmnt, in sonata form, is reflecting an experiment of Beethoven's (also carried out in the companion sonata, Opus 27, # 1 and later on in Opus 101) in the placement of the most important mvmnt of the sonata last. The writing has many fast arpeggios and strongly accented notes, and an effective performance demanding lively and skillful playing.
Of the final movement, Charles Rosen has written "it is the most unbridled in its representation of emotion. Even today, two hundred years later, its ferocity is astonishing."
Beethoven's heavy use of sforzando notes, together with just a few strategically located fortissimo passages, creates the sense of a very powerful sound in spite of the predominance of piano markings throughout.
