Yours truly will be there.
Should be interesting - the last time i saw the Stones perform live was at Live Aid, when our respective Temporal Lobe was still somewhat functioning. :)

Ernst Reijseger - Holland suite
Outstanding.
it's like sitting in on a virtuoso practicing his scales
and rudiments, transprogressions of Bach, and then being amazed even
further as he picks up his cello and continues practicing while walking
around the room! :)

ג'וני ג'וני - מורין נהדר juni juni - maureen nehedar
Today's Cultural Corner... Iran via Israel.
Maureen Nehedar sings and old Persian Traditional.
Antonio Salieri - Adagio, Concerto for Fortepiano and Orchestram, B-flat...
Today's Classical Corner... Salieri!
Forget what the movies say, in real life Salieri was not Mozart's enemy.
Mozart's worst enemy was himself - his arrogant attitude, gambling, heavy drinking and irresponsible money habits, always racking up debts on stuff he couldn't afford and only used once or twice anyway, and putting his wife through hell to get them paid down. Not to belittle Mozart as a composer, but he did sabotage himself in untold ways... lets not forget many prodigies and geniuses are deficient in some other area; most are complete disasters financially and socially.
Salieri's only "crime" is that he was successful and knew how to make friends at court instead of enemies, and that he knew how to satisfy the tastes of his time to make money. Far from a jealous mediocrity driven to madness, he not only outlived Mozart but was respected and celebrated to his dying days. Beethoven and even the young Rossini owed a far greater debt of musical knowledge to him than to Mozart. Salieri was teacher to many of the greats, even if he isn't as popular as they are today.

Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane - Bye-Ya
Here, the less drum-stick, big Coltrane solo version.
Bye-Y'all.
Thelonious Monk - Bye-Ya
Today's Classic Jazz Corner comes early... and quirky.
of course, it's Monk!
This will be followed by the version with Trane, who to me is surprisingly quirky in his playing here.
of course, after all, he's playing with Monk.
Have a quirky day.

This is literally Classical heritage music. Roena, the music, musicianship and chord changes are heavenly!
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
Today's Classic Jazz Corner... Herbie!
Not only because his ever-melodic chordal rhythmic sense is truly astounding, but also because his person has a way of drawing it from those recording with him. i am certain somehow this sentence made sense. but i guess you'll have to read it again. :)
Devin Townsend Band - Let it Roll

Careful, this Canadian star starts softly.
Nevertheless, it's still tame by his standards.

Bach-Busoni Chaconne [Rubinstein]
Today's Classical Corner... Bach, Busoni style, by way of Rubinstein!
that's a whollota manpower in one sentence, but there it is! Rrrrrespect. :)
The Bach-Busoni Editions, which also contained musical analyses and essays, helped in making Busoni a well known musicologist and transcriber (so much, as this funny vignette will show, that one time Busoni's wife was accidentally introduced as "Mrs. Bach-Busoni").

Itamar Ziegler / Pieces / איתמר ציגלר
אוהב את האמן הזה. כבר הרבה זמן.
1 of 2 from an astounding artist.
This guy is the real deal. i've like him for a long time, and knew of him in the US. Then, many years later, in Israel, i suddenly see him in my neighborhood park. i tell my kid to stay put, and walk over to him. i had to tell him i love his music. and i did. and he was just a regular guy, amiable, and modest, and that was nice to see.
he is a diverse musician/composer/singer, and doesn't just play solo stuff.
highly recommended.
Maurice Ravel Pavane pour une infante défunte Pierre Boulez Cleveland Or...
Today's Classical Corner... Ravel!
Boulez does Cleveland, in a beautiful way.
Utterly majestic piece, sounding so on solo piano as well.
Brian Eno & David Byrne - Mea Culpa
Eno is 66 years of age today, Byrne is 62 as of yesterday.
As of 5 days ago, i am a bit younger than them.
We all share the same great astro sign, but i was shorted a bit on the talent. :)
still, i'll take it; not that i really have a choice.

Alfred Schnittke - Piano Quintet, II
Today's Schnittke Corner.
Beware; you may never exit!
This whole series, Piano Quintet, took 4 years to complete.
In it, one may possibly find the constitution of all of Schnittke's large body of work, because its profound intensity and diversity hints at the founding trauma for such a consistently agonizing body of artistic work.

The problem of Racism is much deeper than this one Big individual. THAT is seriously distressing...
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10857268/removing-donald-sterling-la-clippers-owner-fix-our-culture
The problem of Racism is much deeper than this one Big individual. THAT is seriously distressing.
i didn’t hear the tapes, and didn’t read all that was said on the tapes, but i got the idea: awful, terrible, ugly words. i applaud and agree with the point made here in Whitlock’s well-written commentary. the problem is much bigger than this one big man. Things said in private aren’t always kind, and often they are very much the opposite - particularly in the extremely exclusive society of sports ownership. I don’t know much about Sterling, and not at all intrigued to know, however we do all have the right to live our lives as we wish, small-minded as they may be, so long as we don’t hurt or offend others intentionally and conscientiously! We all have dark little secrets, perhaps even ones we’re ashamed of, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be kind, and it doesn’t mean we’re necessarily bad, and it definitely doesn’t mean there are not others around who think the same. THAT is seriously distressing. This whole story, like many others before it, should urge us to dig deep and change fundamental things in our society as a whole, and not just in one person. it’s simple easy and fun to point the finger and blame, but this will pass. quickly. It would be much more beneficial to humanity to use this finger-pointing to grow up, to make longstanding positive change in our approach to life and community - for each other’s benefit.
The Who - The Kids Are Alright
Good morning...
and do your best shaping tomorrow's kids.
i wish your deep self either incredible success or remarkable denial. Either way, if you're a good person it's certainly going to be a challenge. and if it's any consolation, there's always nostalgia! :)
Frank Zappa - Sleep Dirt
there was a time i used to go to sleep with this on repeat.
now, there's a sure way to welcome dirt into your sleep. nevertheless, i dare say i thoroughly enjoyed it.
in fact, i'm considering refurbishing the ritual.
