Seabear - i`ll build you a fire

Sound of Noise - Music for One Apartment and Six Drummers (long version)

brilliant rascals!

Lonnie Johnson - You Can't Buy Love

... but one can definitely ruin it, destroy it, and throw it all far away.
or, you can simply force somebody else to do it.
either way, you got to be very very foolish and narrow-minded to make this be your choice of reality!
i, for one, hope very much you make other choices - and COMPROMISES - before it's too late.
fortunately, i'm not talking about me. i'm not even talking about romance.

ארקדי דוכין - היא לא דומה

Don Cherry & Krzysztof Penderecki: Humus - The Life Exploring Force (edit)

Humus...
is for everyone. so is peace and quiet. in fact, it's naturally necessary.
In this track and album, there is an ultimate meeting of the minds. Maybe it's because they feasted hummus together. Maybe they didn't even like each other, but they got together, explored, challenged and supported one another, and made incredible everlasting magic.
Maybe, just maybe, Arab and Israeli political leaders can perform the same magic! i, for one, promise to buy the album and a ticket to see the concert.

Clara Schumann - Prelude and Fugue Op.16, No.2

Today's Classical Corner... Schumann - the 'other' one!
Starred in the Classical Corner in the past, and once again quite worthy of it. Considered one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era, she spent her life promoting her famous husband with her own concert performances of his works. She was in her own right quite a composer, but was also a mother to 7, and supported the family financially for most of their married life. It is said that she grieved "women weren't meant to be composers".
i'm glad she proved herself wrong, then again she sacrificed the beauty she could have bestowed upon us all. Thankfully, some, like this, has remained.

Nigel Bunn - sea goose

Haven't yet heard a Nigel i didn't like.

tempos. Don you fret, don't you worry: just turn it up, let it in, and
wiggle and jiggle like there may not be a tomorrow.

Chick Corea - Windows

Good morning, with good news...
talks of ceasefire, at least for a short (and most probably ever-temporary) period of time.

F.M.VERACINI - Sonata Accademiche

The asteroid 10875 Veracini was named after him, and it is said of him that "he rescued the imperiled music of the eighteenth century".

Kiri te Kanawa: "Aria (Cantilena)", Bachianas brasileiras n'5 (Villa-L...

Today's Classical Corner... Villa-Lobos!
This dramatic 5th of 9 suites closes out today's dramatic events.
It would have fitted perfectly last night's Brazilian's Mondial debacle, but alas there's always reason for pathos.
Notice the quaintly emphatic ending to this, arguably his most famous work.
I bid you all a good night, and a safer tomorrow.

Schnittke - Requiem: Sanctus

Here is that aforementioned Schnittke.

Alfred Schnittke: Polyphonischer Tango

While we're at it (and in the same vain as the former)... but this time with defiantly complex cynicism, typical of Schnittke, depicting the absurdly insane world we live in, and the consequences we endure from the majority that votes our leaders into office.

This post will be followed by a more palpable misery. :)

Chopin: Nocturne #20 in C Sharp Minor, Op. Posth. (Arrau)

Today's Classical Corner... Chopin.

Again, juxtaposition of lucidly elusive sadness from Frederic, reflecting our all-too-often hard-to-grasp existential surrounding.

The Incredible String Band - Witches Hat (1968)

indeed, Incredible.

Curtis Amy - Liberia

Today's Classic Jazz Corner... Curtis!

A swinging treasure, Curtis Amy was (and lives on), due to his playing style, which encompassed many genres, and included many musical associations to my liking, as is the case here with Victor and both Roy(s), among others.

Dig: Curtis is the soloist on The Doors' Touch Me, and Carole King's Tapestry.

Matisyahu - Sunshine

There is always hope that true change can happen in this land when at least two real and brave champions will succeed in pushing these ancient constant threatening clouds aside.

Afro-Cuban All Star - A Toda Cuba Le Gusta [Full Album]

Unpacking (if but temporarily) Playlist...

Maxim Berezovsky - Symphony in C major.wmv

The 2nd installment, from the incredible Ukrainian, Maksym Berezovsky (c.1745 –1777), a revolutionary composer, opera singer, and violinist, whose death came early, and its cause still unclear. Much of his work has been lost, but still to our great fortune some survived.
There are many amazing artists that died young, and it's a wonder to think of the creative gifts that could have been bestowed us, which waft around the universe like cloud and stardust which will never settle.

Hidden treasures - Maxim Berezovsky - Selected sacred hymns (c. 1773-1777)

Double dose of incredible Ukrainian composer, Максим Березовський.

Igor Stravinsky - Tango for Piano

Today's Classical Corner... Stravinsky!
Tango (for piano) was composed in 1940. Due to its simplicity, it is one of Stravinsky's most recorded works for piano. After settling in Hollywood, Stravinsky was unable to bring the money he earned from his royalties of his works in Europe to America, due to copyright issues and ambiguities. When he found himself with financial difficulties, he decided to write new compositions entirely in America in order to exploit them, with the exclusive intention of making money. Tango, which was the first work entirely written in America, is one of those works.
