Black, white, Jewish, or otherwise... Wisdom and a presiding spirit shall be our guide, which somehow can instill in us all that human beings are fundamentally good.
Sun Ra's music will forever be influential, containing within it many profound and revolutionary highlights. In this track, recorded in 1960, bassist Ronnie Boykins solos in what may be the first recorded example of the bass being played in a horn-like manner within a relatively free context. Boykins left Ra in 1966, ostensibly to pursue more lucrative opportunities; Ra had a difficult time finding a replacement, at times settling for playing his own bass lines on keyboard.
Today's Classical Corner is... Scotland! This is a traditional Scottish song, performed by the amazing Hilliard Ensemble, which mostly focused on music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods, but they also performed contemporary music, working frequently with the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, and included in its concerts works by John Cage, Gavin Bryars, Giya Kancheli, and Heinz Holliger. #OdedMusic #OdedFriedGaon #OdedTodaysClassicalCorner
