Don Ellis - 12/8 (7+5)
A truly hip musician/composer, Don Ellis was remarkable, especially in utilizing different musical time signatures rhythms and tempos. Sadly, he died young, but left a mark forever.
Joe Jackson - Sunday Papers
Brilliant song, brilliant album, musicianship, composition, production... couldn't find better quality 'sound' for it, but "yeah"!
Miike Snow - The Rabbit
Not sure what i just watched, but it was interesting and funny.
and, well, Sweden once again pumping out the good Pop!
Patti Smith - When Doves Cry
Not the greatest of singers, but does always deliver artistic results. here she brings a cool reserved version to this song.

The Four Tops - Reach out,I'll be There (HQ)
Today's Classic Soul Corner... feelgood, all the way, backed with a great use of the high-reaching, soul-soothing harmonic sounds of the classic flute.
Unicorn - "No Way Out Of Here"
Classic Rock Corner... surprise, surprise. at least for me! i didn't know this was the original, and not the David Gilmour version. COOL.
i like the famous version better, but here is something i wish the other had: a Slide Guitar! At least that's what i would like to think it is! :)
Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) - Sino alla morte
Today's Classical Corner... extraordinary!
A fascinating Italian woman, said to be not only an amazing vocalist herself, she was as well the most prolific composer - man or woman - of printed secular vocal music in Venice in the Middle of the century!
Her creations, mostly for Soprano, are also unique in that they almost completely only contains secular vocal music. something very rare for her time, especially for women.
i say again, WOMEN need to run the show. any show. anywhere. period!

George Duke - Feel - 1974
If this is so, and George Duke is really gone, it is so so sad.
Especially after his wife's passing recently. Seems to be case often, when a spouse dies, one's life changes completely.
An incredible musician performer and composer, who left us much behind!
Ambassadeurs Haiti - Ciao Ciao
It's time for our daily Cultural Corner - or, in other words, Further Proof Of Why Our World Is Oh So Beautiful.
And today... a Classic group from Haiti: Les Ambassadors, to be more exact. They utilized many rhythms, some of them include Biguine, Kadans, and Zouk! These guys were bad mo'fos, but it's hard to find good quality recordings. still, very worthed!
Arcangelo Corelli - Sarabande
Today's Classical Corner is... the Great Corelli, who supposedly influenced Handel, Bach, and Vivaldi, among others.
Notice, this piece is divided into 2 very different sections.
Enjoy.

On second thought (and i'm not crazy about Jazz vocals, but THIS works really nicely)...
Good night, good people!
Alice In Chains - Would
Nostalgia...
i was going to post STP's Plush but then i remembered how the obnoxiously loud snare always bothered me.
So, we'll rock with Alice's satanic harmonies instead.

Classic Rock Corner... the immensely missed man himself.

Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767)
Μισιρλού (Τέτος Δημητριάδης -1927)
Cultural Corner... Greece, by way of the Rebetiko!
Misirlou (the name of the song) means a Muslim Egyptian girl, as opposed to Egyptian Christians who were referred to as Aigyptioi, in Greek.
The song may be recognizable, not only because of Dick Dale, and The Beach Boys, among many others who covered it, but also from Tanrantino's Pulp Fiction.

Françoise Hardy - Le temps de l'amour (1964)
call me a fool, but this 'Amour' is more real to me than most of today's music videos. maybe it's because of the 'long shot'. hhhhh
Blitzen Trapper - Black River Killer (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
And another. cause they remind me of a current The Band.
this time, with a superb video.
Blitzen Trapper - Love The Way You Walk Away (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

A great song, from a really great and productive time for this composer (and his lyricist).
Ung - Inner Voices
As they say: Free your mind, and your ass will follow...
Now, let's hope it does.
Chinary Ung - Cinnabar Heart
This will try you, i think. it's incredibly interesting, and really not too 'out'.
Chinary Ung is a remarkable Cambodian clarinetist/composer.
I will post another extraordinary piece by him, more colorful and varied, and quite different.
Tinashé - Mbira version of "Zambezi"
Cultural Corner... Zimbabwe.
(And a much better version of this song).
