Misirlou (the name of the song) means a Muslim Egyptian girl, as opposed to Egyptian Christians who were referred to as Aigyptioi, in Greek.
The song may be recognizable, not only because of Dick Dale, and The Beach Boys, among many others who covered it, but also from Tanrantino's Pulp Fiction.
