Today's Cultural Corner... Puerto Rico's "Maelo".

Rivera was a composer/singer/activist, and a faithful pilgrim of the Black Christ procession in Portobelo, Panama, and this song is about that.

He was also very involved in the creation of a historical museum which depicts the contributions made to the cultural life of Puerto Rico by black Puerto Ricans.

As of 2001, Puerto Rico celebrates October 5 as "Ismael Rivera Day".
