Harold Land Quintet - The Peace Maker

Today's Classic Jazz Corner... is a double shot of a very private superb musician.

Harold
de Vance Land (1928-2001) was an American hard bop and post-bop tenor
saxophonist. An underrated tenor saxophonist whose tone has hardened
with time and whose improvising style after the 1960s became influenced
by (but not a copy of) John Coltrane, Land developed his hard bop
playing with the Max Roach/Clifford Brown band into a personal, modern
style. His tone was strong and emotional, yet displayed a certain
fragility that made him easy to recognize.
