Today's Classical Corner... Bruch!
Bruch sold the score of this, his most famous composition, to publisher N. Simrock for a minuscule sum - but he kept a copy. At the end of WWI, unable to get royalty payments because of chaotic world economics, he sent his autographed copy to the duo-pianists Rose & Ottilie Sutro, so that they could sell it in the USA, and send him money. Bruch died Oct 1920, without ever receiving any money. The Sutro sisters eventually sold it to Mary Flagler Cary, and it now resides at the Pierpont Public Library in NYC.
