Brahms - Symphony no. 4 in e minor op. 98 - Allegro Giocoso
Today's Classical Corner... Brahms, and the animated conductor, both of whom i like!
The last of his symphonies, Brahms began working on the piece in what was then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1884, just a year after completing his Symphony #3. It premiered on October 25, 1885.
This movement is the only true scherzo found in Brahms' symphonies. A scherzo refers to a movement that replaces the minuet as the 3rd movement in a 4-movement work, or meaning a fast-moving humorous composition that may or may not be part of a larger work.
