Schubert ‐ Divertissement a la Francaise in E minor for Piano 4 Hands, D...
Today's Classical Corner... that's right, my favorite. Schubert!
Schubert is unique in writing almost as much piano music for 4 hands as for 2. Piano duetting was popular in his day, and the prospects for publishing them were healthier than those for solo piano music.
Several of his most significant 4-hands works had their origins in his two visits to Hungary, where he was employed as music-master to the daughters of Count Esterházy von Galánta, and on his 2nd visit, Schubert fell in love with one of the daughters.
