Serguéi Rajmáninov "Song, Op. 38_"The pied piper"

Today's Classical Corner... Rachmaninoff's Pied Piper!
Completed in 1916, it is brilliantly playful and innocent, contrasting the cruelty in the lyric, which conveys Briusov's version of Grimm's tale about a bold, boastful seduction of a girl, later sent to the pasture to be with the lambs. It is the same version set to music by Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf.
